CAN PDR FIX DENTS ON A BODY LINE OR CREASE?

Expert insights from Houston's trusted paintless dent repair and hail damage specialists.

Published August 29, 2026 | By Pro PDR Team

A body line is a deliberate crease designers add to a panel for style and structural rigidity — and it happens to be one of the harder places on a car to repair a dent. That doesn't mean it's impossible; it means it takes more skill and a different approach than a flat-panel dent.

Why Body Lines Are Harder to Fix

Flat panel dents can be worked from a wide area, spreading pressure gradually as the metal returns to shape. A dent that crosses or sits on a body line has to preserve that crisp factory line while still massaging the metal flat — push too far in the wrong spot and you can blur the line or create a new low spot next to it.

What Determines Whether It's Fixable

The same basic rule applies as any PDR job: if the paint is intact, it's usually fixable. Beyond that, the dent's exact position relative to the line, how sharp the crease is, and how much access the technician has to the back of the panel all affect difficulty and repair time. Some body line dents that look severe from the driver's seat turn out to be very workable; others that look minor turn out to require extra time because of exactly where they sit.

Why Technician Experience Matters More Here

This is one category of repair where a shop's specific experience really shows. General body shops and less experienced PDR techs often turn body line work away rather than risk it. Our technicians handle body line and crease repairs regularly as part of full hail restorations, where dents inevitably land on every part of the vehicle, lines included.

Getting an Honest Answer

Photos alone don't always show whether a body line dent is workable — lighting and angle change how visible the damage looks. A free in-person inspection is the only reliable way to know for sure, and if a specific dent truly isn't a good PDR candidate, we'll tell you that directly instead of attempting a repair that won't hold up.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Often yes, because they take more time and a more careful technique than a flat-panel dent of the same size. We price body line repairs individually rather than at a flat rate for that reason.

Yes — during a full hail restoration, dents land wherever the storm hit, body lines included. Our technicians handle this as a routine part of hail repair work.

The best way is a free in-person inspection, since photos don't always capture the exact position and access needed to judge it accurately. If a dent truly isn't a good PDR candidate, we'll say so directly.
